Why I chose to invest in the Cambo System "I knew that I wanted a technical camera system, because my images often require shifting the image area to correct for perspective. This can make a huge difference by keeping the car from getting too distorted, even on a wide-angle lens. And I use mostly wide lenses - they make for a more exciting image, and a more natural human eye-view. Even on shots without any camera moves, I’ve found the latest digital lenses from Rodenstock and Schneider to be much sharper than anything else out there." "After much research, I wanted to compare systems from Cambo, Alpa, and Arca-Swiss. A good friend of mine is an Alpa owner, and Steve Hendrix of Capture Integration brought a Cambo and Arca-Swiss so we could compare all 3 together. They are all fine cameras, but the Cambo impressed me on a few levels. It was clearly the most rigid camera - there is very little play between the lens, body, interface plate, and digital back. This is important on a shoot where the camera is mounted on a moving vehicle rig arm, and I may have different assistants operating it - a little bump or nudge can mean that multiple images will be out of registration when they are layered together in Photoshop. Camera movements and adjustments are precise and repeatable." "I think this very solid feeling is at least partly because of another thing I appreciate about the Cambo system - it’s all very simple. There are as few moving parts as possible. Nothing extra. This also reduces weight and size of the camera. Lenses are easy to mount - it could be done one-handed, in the dark. Another important feature is that all shifts, for correcting perspective, or creating huge-megapixel stitched images, are at the back of the camera, to avoid the problem of misalignment that some cameras have, when the shift movement is at the lens side. Jeff uses the following cameras and lenses: Cambo Wide RS and Wide RC-400 camera, 32 HR-W, 40 HR-W, 50 HR-W, 60 XL Digitar, 70 HR-W Tilt/Swing and 90 Digitar Tilt/Swing. |
